All residence permits in Spain require permanent residence in the country (more than 6 months per year), while the Golden Visa in Spain allows investors and their families to be outside of Spain whenever they want without minimum conditions. They only need to enter to Spain at least one day per year.
If you apply for a golden visa from Spain, the first period of residence permit will be 3 years. After 3 years, the residence permit must be renewed for another 5 years. The renewal process is simple and does not require additional investment. The applicant must prove that he still owns the investment that was purchased before and he has visited Spain at least once during the year. After 5 years, the applicant can apply for permanent residence in Spain and after 10 years, he can apply for Spanish citizenship if he wishes, that’s why golden residency is also known as citizenship by investment.
